GLOBAL MARKETS-Dollar at 2-year low level against euro

EKONOMİ

The dollar dropped to the lowest level in over two years against the euro and several other currencies on Wednesday as investors expect Americans to start getting stimulus checks soon.

The dollar has been on the decline since United States President Donald Trump signed the latest coronavirus aid package on Sunday. The fall continued despite Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocking efforts by Trump and Democrats to increase direct stimulus payments from 600 dollars to 2,000 dollars. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated Americans will start receiving the 600 dollar checks today.
After hitting the over-two-year high of 1.22949 minutes earlier, the euro gained 0.24 percent against the dollar to sell for 1.22793. The Australian and New Zealand dollars also traded at the highest levels since 2018 against the greenback.
