CBRT - Portfolio investments fell by 12.3 percent in 2020

Portfolio investments decreased by 12.3 percent to 117.3 billion dollars in 2020 on an annual basis, according to the International Investment Position Developments data, released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) on Friday.


Non-residents’ equity holdings recorded 29.2 billion dollars reflecting a decrease of 10.5 percent compared to the end of 2019. 


Non-residents’ holdings of GDDS (Government Domestic Debt Securities) recorded 8.6 billion dollars with a decrease of 44.3 percent. Outstanding eurobond holdings of nonresidents posted USD 46.2 billion dollars with a decrease of 6.2 percent.


Other investments indicated an increase of 3.5 percent to 313.1 billion dollars compared to the end of 2019. FX deposits of non-residents held within the resident banks recorded 33.4 billion dollars at the end of 2020, reflecting a decrease of 3.3 percent compared to the end of 2019, and TL deposits increased by 15.3 percent recording 15.7 billion dollars.


Total external loan stock of the banks recorded 63.8 billion dollars decreasing by 5.5 percent compared to the end of 2019, and total external loan stock of the other sectors recorded 96.7 billion dollars decreasing by 1.6 percent.
