The price of Bitcoin surged further on Tuesday, setting a new record and topping 48,000 dollars for the first time, while Ether surpassed on Tuesday the 1,800 dollars mark after growing more than 8.0 percent during the past 24 hours.
Bitcoin's recent sharp rise was prompted by news that Tesla CEO Elon Musk decided to buy 1.5 billion dollars worth of the world's most famous cryptocurrency.
As Bitcoin continued to soar upon Elon Musk's decision to acquire 1.5 billion dollars of the world's most famous cryptocurrency, the crypto runner up Ether followed suit gaining 18.5 percent on a weekly level, and a whopping 684 percent compared to the same period the year before.
Bitcoin soared 23.93 percent over the past 24-hour period, to sell for 48,049.91 dollars, while Ether touched the 1,800 dollars threshold over the same period, going back to trade at 1,7334.83 dollars soon after.
