EIA: US oil inventories drop by 9.9 million barrels

Crude oil stockpiles in the United States sank by 9.9 million barrels on a weekly basis to stand at 476.7 million barrels in the week ending January 22, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a report released on Wednesday.


Meanwhile, the country's oil imports averaged 5.1 million barrels per day last week, down by 1 million barrels per day compared to the previous week's level. Total commercial petroleum inventories decreased by 11.7 million barrels last week.


Crude oil refinery inputs in the US stood at 14.7 million barrels per day during the week ending January 22, marking a decline of 39,000 barrels per day on a weekly basis, while refineries operated at 81.7 percent of their capacity. 


Gasoline output slid to an average of 8.7 million barrels per day last week, and distillate fuel production averaged 4.5 million barrels per day during the same period, falling from the previous week's level.
