Euro area annual inflation stable at -0.3 percent

Euro area annual inflation in December is expected to be -0.3 percent, Eurostat said in a preliminary release on Thursday.


The food, alcohol & tobacco category is seen at the highest annual rate, at 1.4 percent compared with 1.9 percent in November. Prices for services rose 0.7 percent annually, up from 0.6 percent in November. 
Non-energy industrial goods inflation was at -0.5 percent from 0.3 percent in November, while energy inflation was -6.9 percent, compared with -8.4 percent in November.
Consumer confidence in the Eurozone increased to -13.9 points in December, from -17.60 points in November, European Commission said in its report on Thursday.
Economic data points to a drop in Eurozone's gross domestic product in the fourth quarter, the European Central Bank said in its economic bulletin on Thursday.
The "incoming survey data point to a continued growth momentum at the start of the fourth quarter, although consumer confidence remains weak," the ECB said.
