London Metal Exchange may close trading ring - report

NEWS IN ENGLISH

The London Metal Exchange (LME) is looking into closing its open-outcry trading ring, the last of its kind in the United Kingdom, Sky News reported on Tuesday. The ring currently accounts for 50 billion dollars in metal trades per day.

According to the suggestion, LME's operations could become more transparent and fair if they were modeled after the London Stock Exchange.

The proposal is set to be officially revealed later in the day, but market watchers are expecting the decision could be opposed by traders since the trading ring has existed since the 19th century.

The ring has been temporarily shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.
