OSD-Automotive output fell by 11% and exports by 27% in 2020

Turkey’s total automotive production fell by 11 percent to 1.29 million units and car production fell by 13 percent to 855,043 units in 2020 on an annual basis, according to a new report from the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) released on Monday.


Overall capacity utilisation of the automotive industry was at 65 percent in 2020, with 66 percent at light vehicles (car and light commercial vehicles), 46 percent at heavy-duty vehicles, and 51 percent at agricultural tractors.


The sector’s total exports decreased by 27 percent to 916,543 units, while car exports decreased by 28 percent to 596,616 units, over the same period. Total exports of the automotive industry stood at 25.9 billion dollars, with a 15 percent share of Turkey's total exports in 2020.


However, total sales over the same period increased by 62 percent to 796,200 units and car sales increased by 58 percent to 610,109 units, the OSD data showed.
