Precious metals trade higher, platinum up over 3.0 percent

Precious metals traded higher on Tuesday following two consecutive sessions of losses amid rising Treasury yields. Platinum was the strongest performing metal, surging over 3.0 percent following sharp losses suffered on Friday.


Shares on Wall Street were higher during premarket trading on Tuesday, while Treasury yields rose as investors focused on the prospects for more fiscal stimulus in the United States.


Incoming President Joe Biden vowed to pass a multitrillion-dollar economic stimulus package early in his administration, however, with current plans to impeach President Donald Trump a second time, the plan could face delays.


Gold rose 0.79 percent to 1,859.79 dollars per ounce, while silver jumped 1.85 percent to 25.43 dollars at the same time. At the same time, platinum climbed 3.02 percent to 1,068.12 dollars an ounce. Palladium was up 0.54 percent to 2,389.22 dollars per ounce at the time.
