TurkStat - Consumer confidence rises by 4.0 pct. to 83.3

Seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index increased by 4.0 percent in January on monthly basis to 83.3, up from 80.1 in December, according to the Consumer Confidence Index data, released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Thursday.


The index, calculated from the results of the consumer tendency survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, is evaluated within the range of 0-200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100, but it indicates a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.


The financial situation of the household index at present compared to the past 12 months period which was 66.1 in December decreased by 3.6 percent and became 63.7 in January.


The financial situation expectation of household index in the next 12 months period which was 78.9 in December increased by 6.3 percent and became 83.8 in January.


The general economic situation expectation index in the next 12 months period which was 82.9 in December increased by 6.5 percent and became 88.2 in January.


Assessment on spending money on durable goods index over next 12 months compared to the past 12 months period which was 92.6 in December increased by 5.1 percent and became 97.3 in January.


In monthly consumer tendency survey, consumers' assessments and expectations on financial standing and general economic situation, also their expenditure and saving tendencies are measured.
