Yellen: US could return to full employment in 2022 if aid bill passes

United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen claimed on Sunday the country could achieve full employment next year if the US Congress passes a 1.9 trillion-dollar coronavirus stimulus bill proposed by the Biden administration, adding that the US job market is currently "in a deep hole."

"The Congressional Budget Office issued an analysis recently and it showed that if we don't provide additional support, the unemployment rate is going to stay elevated for years to come," Yellen warned in an interview with CNN. On the other hand, the country's unemployment rate could remain above 4.0 percent until 2025 if the bill fails to pass in the US Congress, she explained.

Hailing the proposal that was put forward by US President Joe Biden, the secretary asserted it is "big enough to address the full range of needs" of Americans amid the coronavirus crisis.
