CBRT-Prof. Elif Haykır Hobikoğlu elected as a MPC member

Prof. Elif Haykır Hobikoğlu, who is a member of the Board, has been elected as a Monetary Policy Committee member of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), according to the press release by the CBRT on Thursday.

"As per Article 22/A of the Law on the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Elif Haykır Hobikoğlu, who is a member of the Board, has been elected as a Monetary Policy Committee member. Prof. Hobikoğlu will join the Monetary Policy Committee meeting to be held on Thursday, 15 April 2021" read the press release.


Elif Haykır Hobikoğlu was born in 1977 in Ankara and graduated from the Faculty of Economics at İstanbul University in 1999. She began her academic career as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Economics at İstanbul University. She received her master’s degrees from the Social Sciences Institute at the Department of Economics at İstanbul University in 2003 and also earned her PhD at the same department in 2009. She became an associate professor of macroeconomics in 2014 and was appointed a professor in the same field in 2019.  


Prof. Hobikoğlu has authored many books and academic studies on macroeconomics, monetary policy, behavioral finance, growth and development. She is married with three children.
Still serving at the Department of Technology and Industrial Economics at the Faculty of Economics at İstanbul University, Prof. Hobikoğlu has been a member of the Board of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey since 18 May 2020.
