ECB's rates haven't reached lower bound - Lane

NEWS IN ENGLISH

The European Central Bank (ECB) still hasn't reached the "lower bound" in terms of key rates, ECB Executive Board member Philip Lane said on Tuesday, hinting that the central bank "could still lower the deposit rate if needed."

"While we don't think we are at the lower bound, there is clearly less room to deliver monetary stimulus when interest rates are already low, compared to historical norms," he explained in an interview with Financial Times.

Furthermore, the economist asserted that reaching a 2.0 percent inflation goal is going to be "an uphill climb," adding that "patience is required" as no central bank across the globe is expected to achieve that goal "super quickly."
