ECB won't adjust policy to respond to high inflation - Schnabel

NEWS IN ENGLISH

Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), Isabel Schnabel, said that the bank has no intentions to raise its interest rates to respond to this year's inflation spike.

The policymaker noted the board will not make monetary policy adjustments even though it expects German inflation to exceed 3.0 percent in 2021. "The European Central Bank considers this a transient rise," said Schnabel.

Her comments come amid reflation worries, as many anticipate that the lack of policy adjustments could lead to halting the overall economic recovery from the health crisis and that the inflation after the pandemic will be short-lived.
