Road motor vehicles registrations rose by 81 pct. annually

The number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 71.8 percent on monthly basis and by 81 percent on an annual basis to 130 thousand 420 units in March, according to the Road Motor Vehicles data, released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday.

Regarding the vehicle registrations in March, cars accounted for 61.3 percent, followed by motorcycles 15.4 percent, small trucks 13.8 percent, tractors 5.7 percent, trucks 2.6 percent, minibuses 0.5 percent, buses 0.4 percent and special-purpose vehicles 0.3 percent.

In the January-March period, compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of registered vehicles increased by 47.3 percent and became 323 thousand 635 while the number of withdrawn road motor vehicles decreased by 15.2 percent and became 11 thousand 836. Hence, in the period of January-March, the increase in motor vehicles registered became 311 thousand 799.

In March, compared with the same month of the previous year, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 183.5 percent, 134.2 percent, 86.6 percent, 84.8 percent, 74.7 percent and 67.4 percent for special purpose vehicles, trucks, small trucks, cars, tractors, motorcycles respectively while it decreased by 15.6 percent and 9.5 percent for minibuses and buses.

At the end of March, cars represented 54.4 percent, small trucks 16.3 percent, motorcycles 14.5 percent, tractors 8.1 percent, trucks 3.5 percent, minibuses 2.0 percent, buses 0.9 percent and special-purpose vehicles 0.3 percent of the total number of road motor vehicles registered.

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the newly registered cars in March, Fiat recorded 13.9 percent, Renault 11.4 percent, Volkswagen 11.3 percent, Toyota 9.4 percent, Skoda 5.9 percent, Hyundai 5.7 percent, Peugeot 4.9 percent, Honda 4.3 percent, Dacia 3.5 percent, Kia 3.3 percent, Citroen 3.3 percent, Nissan 3.1 percent, Mercedes-Benz 3.0 percent, Opel 3.0 percent, Ford 2.7 percent, BMW 2.4 percent, Seat 2.4 percent, Audi 2.3 percent, Volvo 1.1 percent, Land Rover 0.5 percent and the other trademarks 2.6 percent of the total.         

Among 197 thousand 236 cars registered in the period of January-March, the share of gasoline-fuelled cars was 57.8 percent followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 29.6 percent, electric or hybrid cars with 7.3 percent and LPG-fuelled cars with 5.3 percent. At the end of March, among 13 million 293 thousand 727 registered cars, the share of diesel-fuelled cars was 38.2 percent followed by LPG-fuelled cars with 36.4 percent and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.8 percent. The share of electric or hybrid cars was 0.4 percent and the cars with unknown fuel type were 0.3 percent. 

Within 197 thousand 236 cars registered to traffic in January-March period, 30.4 percent had 1401-1500, 26.7 percent had 1300 or less, 18.5 percent had 1301-1400, 17.6 percent had 1501-1600, 5.8 percent had 1601-2000, 0.7 percent had 2001 and above.   

Within 197 thousand 236 cars registered to traffic in the January-March period, 40.1 percent of them were white, 28.7 percent were grey, 10.3 percent were blue, 7.6 percent were red, 6.6 percent were black, 2.2 percent were orange, 1.4 percent were brown, 0.6 percent were yellow, 0.4 percent were green and 2.2 percent were in other colours.
