The mission is planned for early 2022 and marks the first-ever lunar payload in history paid entirely with the meme-inspired cryptocurrency.
Back in April, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk teased the launch in a tweet, promising his aerospace company will "put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon."
DogeSpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to confirm that his company will launch the first Dogecoin-funded mission to the Moon.
"SpaceX launching satellite Doge-1 to the moon next year – Mission paid for in Doge – 1st crypto in space – 1st meme in space," Musk wrote in a tweet.
The satellite launch is expected in the first quarter of 2022 and will be performed by Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) with the use of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
