United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen applauded the passage of President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package in the House on Saturday.

According to Yellen, the legislation "ensures that people make it to the other side of this pandemic and are met there by a strong, growing economy."

"As an economist - and an American - I applaud the House’s favorable vote on the American Rescue Plan. There’s a broad consensus among economists: People need more help putting food on the table & keeping a roof over their head until the virus is under control. This plan does that," the Treasury secretary wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the Democratic-controlled House voted 219 to 212 to approve the bill worth $1.9 trillion in order to aid Americans suffering from the coronavirus pandemic's effect on the economy.
United States President Joe Biden urged the Senate to quickly pass his relief package after the House approved the $1.9 trillion bill. "Now, the bill moves to the United States Senate, where I hope it will receive quick action. We have no time to waste," Biden said on Saturday.
