Enfield North MP candidate Karpazli meets with Turkish and Turkish Cypriot diplomats

Ertan Karpazli, the independent MP candidate for Enfield North, has held two separate meetings with His Excellency Koray Ertaş, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the UK, and Her Excellency Çimen Keskin, Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the UK. 

In two separate visits to the Turkish Embassy and the TRNC Representative Office on Friday, 7 June, Karpazli shared with both envoys his vision for Enfield North, an area known for its significant Turkish and Turkish Cypriot populations, as well as a broader Turkish-speaking community. 

Karpazli expressed his commitment to enhancing living standards for these communities should he be elected as a Member of Parliament.

Extending his gratitude to both Mr Ertaş and Ms Keskin for their warm hospitality and thoughtful engagement, Karpazli stated: "I am grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss my vision for Enfield North with such esteemed diplomats. The Turkish and Turkish Cypriot communities are vital to the vibrancy and diversity of our constituency, and I am committed to advocating for their needs and aspirations". 

The meetings underscore the importance of community engagement and diplomatic relations in shaping local and national policy, especially in areas with significant diaspora populations, he added.

Karpazli, who was born in Enfield but is of Turkish Cypriot heritage, announced his candidacy for the Enfield North seat at the end on May after receiving endorsements from the Enfield Community Action Group and The Muslim Vote, a nationwide movement backing MP candidates who demand a ceasefire to Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip.

If voted MP, Karpazli has vowed to fight for direct flights from the UK to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and the end of embargoes on Turkish Cypriots. He has also promised to support calls for the UK to back a two-state solution to the Cyprus Problem in the hope that it would push the Turkish and Greek Cypriots of the island to resume peace talks on an equal footing.
