The number of oil rigs in the United States rose by 13 to 337 in the week ending April 1, data from Baker Hughes showed on Thursday.

During the same period, the number of US gas rigs declined by 1 to 91, while the miscellaneous rigs increased by 1 to a total of 2, bringing the overall figure to 430. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the number of rigs is down by 234.


Meanwhile, in Canada, the total number of rigs decreased by 12 in comparison to the prior week, landing at 69. There were 7 fewer oil rigs, while the number of gas platforms decreased by 5. Year-on-year, the figure was up by 28 rigs.


Crude oil inventories in the United States declined by 0.9 million to land at 501.8 million barrels in the week ending March 26, according to a report released by the US Energy Information Administration on Wednesday.


The country's crude oil imports went up by 0.5 million barrels per day last week to reach 6.1 million barrels per day. Gasoline production averaging 9.3 million barrels per day, marking a growth compared to the previous week.


US crude oil refinery inputs stood at 14.9 million barrels per day during the same seven-day period, up by 0.6 million barrels per day from the previous week's average, while refineries across the country operated at 83.9 percent of their capacity.


Crude inventories in the United States rose by 3.91 million barrels in the week ending March 26, private data from the American Petroleum Institute (API) reportedly showed on Tuesday.


Meanwhile, gasoline stockpiles in the US declined by 6,021,000 barrels during the same week, while the country's distillate reserves rose by 2,595,000 barrels.
