CBRT - Banks ease the standards in loans in the first quarter

The banks eased the standards in the vehicle and other consumer loan types and loans they extended to businesses, but kept unchanged them in mortgages, in the first quarter of the year, according to the Bank Loans Tendency Survey data, released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) on Friday.

Bank Loans Tendency Survey intends to monitor the tendencies of bank loans, which is an important factor in financing the growth of the economy, and to assess the changes in the conditions affecting the credit supply and the factors that are considered to have a role in these changes.


According to the results of the Bank Loans Tendency Survey conducted by the Central Bank (CBRT) on March 8 - 19, banks' expectations for the second quarter of the year,


- standards in business loan types will "continue to be substantially relaxed",

- standards will basically remain the same in consumer loans, housing and vehicle loan types,

- it was determined that the standards would tighten in other retail loans.


According to the survey results, in the first quarter of the year, demand increased in all types of loans, except for foreign currency-denominated loans. On the other hand, there is a decrease in housing and other personal loan demands in consumer loan types and an increase in vehicle loan demands.


According to the survey results, demand for all types of business loans is expected to increase in the second quarter of the year. It is expected that the demand for housing and other retail loan types will increase, while the demand for vehicle loans will decrease.


Analyzing the development of banks' funding opportunities, domestic funding conditions continue to tighten and foreign funding conditions continue to relax in the first quarter of the year.


In the second quarter of the year, it is expected that the tightening in domestic funding conditions will continue and foreign funding conditions will also tighten.
