The Bank-Monument station complex has lead to the downfall of many best laid plans.

For people not used to travelling on London's extensive Underground system, it can be a little confusing.

Transferring at some station can be as easy as crossing the platform but others involve navigating a labyrinth of tunnels, leaving many a traveller walking in circles.

One of the worst for this is the sprawling Bank-Monument station.

In fact a study organised by mastercard showed commuters find this station the second most difficult station to get through after Kings Cross.

Right in the heart of the City, it is served by no fewer than six lines and although counting as one station it is technically two smooshed together with a long underground walk between the two.

Blaming this on the current managers Tfl  would be unfair as the reason for some of the station's confusing layout is due to its history.

When the network was first built, it was made up of many different companies competing for passengers.

This led to multiple stations in the same area, which were eventually combined to make the station that confuses people so much today.

Thankfully TfL are taking steps to make it easier for everyone with massive changes being brought in to improve the situation.

This is what commuters can expect to open by the end of 2022.

A whole new platform

A new railway tunnel and platform for the Northern line is being built.

This will reduce interchange times and create more space for passengers.

As it stands Bank is one of the busiest stations in the capital, used by 120 million passengers a year.

More escalators, lifts and tunnels

More than a thousand metres of new tunnels have been built, including space for new escalators.

Another escalator 'barrel' has been started, which will offer a direct interchange between the Northern line and DLR platforms.

All in, 12 new escalators will be making commuters lives all the easier.

Two lifts are also being built making this interchange easy for disabled people, parents with prams or those with heavy luggage.

Two new moving walkways

Something you'd be more likely to see at an airport, Bank is getting two new moving walkways.

The pair will link the Central Line to the rest of the station getting passengers around all the faster.

A new entrance

A new entrance to the station had already opened on Walbrook in November 2018 but TfL weren't going to rest on their laurels.

Another new entrance is being built on Cannon Street with the construction well underway.
