The price of Bitcoin, the world’s most famous cryptocurrency, has reached an all-time high of over 35,587.66 dollars early on Wednesday.

Bitcoin increased by 11.23 percent in the last 24 hours to go for 35,160.42 dollars, extending a winning streak this year, amid growing interest amongst investment companies in its potential to become a mainstream asset. The digital currency is 26.08 percent higher on the week and has gained around 300 percent over the past year.
The rally observed at the end of 2020 continued into the new year, propelled by the increase in investor interest, on one hand, and the rising fears from the coronavirus pandemic's impact on the economy and the markets, on the other.
The cryptocurrency started its rally at the end of 2020 but has really taken speed, despite most of the markets being closed due to holidays.
Despite almost all of the markets being closed due to the holiday weekend, the cryptocurrency went on with its rally prompted by the increased interest in it by both large and smaller investors.
The cryptocurrency's total market cap climbed over 600 billion dollars as managing partner and co-founder of lending institution in the blockchain space Nexo, Antoni Trenchev, said he expects Bitcoin to "be on the road to 50,000 dollars probably in the first quarter of 2021."
